The First Step To Recovery: Assessment

As a new client, you will participate in an assessment session that focuses on gathering information about your specific circumstances. Providing input on your preferences, history, relationships and current needs will assist your counselor in working with you to develop goals that are meaningful to you as an individual. Your counselor will give you expert feedback on how you can best meet your goals based on your needs.

Walk in Clinics

Walk in clinics offer quick access to assessment services. Walk in clinics are not necessarily "first come, first served"; as with any medical service, clients who are in crisis will be seen first. We provide multiple clinics weekly at our Xenia, Kettering, and Fairborn offices.

Walk in clinic hours can be found here by location.

Please prepare for the possibility that you may be at the clinic for up to four hours as you are seen in the order of your arrival time.

For your convenience, TCN also offers scheduled appointments throughout each week. Please call us at 937-376-8700 for more information.

Outpatient Services

TCN adopts a harm reduction philosophy for the treatment of substance use disorders to curb fatal drug overdoses that are still on the rise. The philosophy of harm reduction accepts drug use as a reality and focuses not on “complete abstinence approach” but on reducing the harmful consequences of addiction, including overdose deaths as well as medical, psycho-social, and legal consequences. Our goal is to use all strategies available to minimize the morbidity and mortality associated with substance use including different psychotherapeutic modalities, medication assisted treatment (MAT), withdrawal management, residential treatment, overdose education and naloxone distribution to patients, families and TCN staff. Our philosophy is to meet these patients at their own levels and focus on their psychological needs using a non-judgmental, empathic stance that considers every substance use client a unique human being with his/her own psychological needs.

Level Of care

Once an assessment is completed, keeping your goals in mind, your counselor will determine the level of care you need to achieve those goals.

STANDARD OUTPATIENT LEVEL 1 (SOP I)

SOP I is for clients who have experienced one or two consequences associated with substance use. Clients appropriate for this group have made unhealthy decisions concerning substance use or behavior while intoxicated has been problematic. The group is designed to offer education about abuse/dependence and increase healthy decision-making concerning substance use. Orientation of the group is prevention.

Standard Outpatient Level 2 (SOP II)

SOP II is for clients who have experienced two or more consequences associated with substance abuse. The group is designed to offer education about substance use disorder and relapse prevention, assist client in evaluating his/her relationship with substances, and teach healthy coping skills for daily living. Orientation of the group is education and intervention.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP)

IOP is for clients with a substance use disorder diagnosis who need a highly structured program to maintain abstinence. The group is designed to offer education about substance use disorder, relapse prevention, and basic recovery skills. Focus of the group is treatment and development of naturally-existing support groups in the community.

Aftercare/Relapse Prevention

Aftercare is for clients who have completed IOP, residential, or forensic treatment and have over 30 days of abstinence. Focus of group is further development of relapse prevention skills, identifying relapse triggers, and supporting client in expanding and utilizing support system.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment

People struggling with mental illness and substance use disorder benefit from this specialized treatment. Each person is given a highly individualized plan addressing their specific concerns about how their mental health condition impacts their work in recovery from substance use or dependence. Education and skill building focus on abstaining from substances while managing the challenges of mental illness. Clients receive additional support in this program through involvement with Community Support Services.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a type of outpatient treatment program that caters to people struggling with substance use disorder. Typically, a person entering a PHP requires a higher level of care than standard outpatient care provides. People in a PHP receive comprehensive treatment services and medical monitoring during the day, but don’t stay overnight at the facility.

PHP is often used in conjunction with Christopher Park and Minda Robinson Transitional Housing. It is also a step program into Christopher House and from Christopher House back into the community. TCN offers mixed and gender specific PHP groups.

Medication Assisted Treatment

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) provides a harm reduction model of treatment for Opioid and Alcohol Use disorders supported by Mental Health and Substance Abuse counseling. Medications prescribed in our MAT clinic consist of Buprenorphine-Naloxone (Suboxone), Sublocade (injectable Buprenorphine), Oral Naltrexone and Vivitrol (injectable Naltrexone). We currently provide MAT services in Greene County at our Xenia and Fairborn locations, Montgomery County at our Kettering location, Champaign and Logan counties at our West Liberty location and Miami county at our Troy location.

Residential Withdrawal Management

Hope House is a place where adults can stay as they take their first steps on the path to recovery. The house is staffed 24/7 by medical staff and peer support specialists who offer support and comfort to guide residents through the acute stages of opiate or methamphetamine withdrawal. Residents are also assessed by a licensed physician and, in most cases, begin medication-assisted treatment prior to discharge. Hope House is a 7 to 10 day program and participants must be assessed for eligibility prior to entry.

Residential Treatment

The Christopher House is a men's residential treatment program addressing substance use disorder. Treatment length is based upon individual need, but typically runs up to 60 days. This allows you plenty of time to practice recovery oriented activities, utilize social supports, and establish yourself in the local recovery community. All of these factors prepare you for taking on a clean and sober lifestyle upon completion of the program.

Jail Assessment and Support Services (JASS)

JASS is an innovative outreach program that provides a unique opportunity for the inmates of Greene County Jail and Xenia Adult Detention Center. Inmates participate in drug and alcohol assessment services, individual counseling, group therapy, referral, and case management services. The JASS program provides further assistance while working closely  with the court system, attorneys, family members, and probation officers by coordinating recommended services and arranging for follow-up services after the person is released.
