Access to high-quality mental health care is essential for helping children grow, thrive, and overcome the challenges that can arise during development. Psychiatric needs among youth continue to rise across the nation, and early intervention has been consistently shown to improve long-term outcomes. Recognizing this growing need, TCN is proud to offer specialized Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services, ensuring that young individuals and their families receive compassionate, comprehensive care close to home.
Mental Wellness in 2026: Presence, Not Perfection
As we step into a new year, conversations about mental wellness often center on big goals and resolutions. But what if we shifted the focus from perfection to presence? It's about acknowledging the full picture: all our lives will be filled with struggles, wins and losses of all varieties, and small moments of comfort and joy.
Emotional Awareness: Asking “What Am I Feeling?”
Mental wellness starts with understanding what’s happening inside. A simple practice is to pause a couple of times a day and ask yourself:
“What am I feeling right now?”
This question helps you name emotions instead of ignoring them. Naming feelings reduces their intensity and gives you space to respond with clarity rather than react impulsively. It’s a small habit that builds emotional intelligence over time.
Social and emotional learning (SEL) can help us learn to identify feelings, handle tough situations, make good choices, build healthy relationships and more. If you'd like to learn more, you can sign up to take a free course in SEL here: https://leadingschoolwidesel.casel.org/pages/sign-in-or-create-a-new-account
Learning the Skill of Self-Compassion
Self-compassion means treating yourself with the same kindness you’d offer a friend. When you make a mistake or face a setback, instead of harsh self-criticism, try saying:
“It’s okay to struggle. I’m learning and growing.”
Research shows self-compassion improves resilience and reduces anxiety. It’s not about lowering standards—it’s about creating a supportive inner dialogue that helps you keep moving forward.

Gratitude Without Toxic Positivity
Here are a few ways to practice gratitude without falling into toxic positivity:
Start small: Write down one thing you’re thankful for each day, even if it’s as simple as a warm cup of coffee.
Honor your feelings: Gratitude doesn’t erase pain. It coexists with it. You can be grateful and still acknowledge hardship.
Focus on meaning: Instead of listing things, reflect on why they matter to you.

This year, let’s make mental wellness a journey, not a destination. Gratitude, emotional awareness, and self-compassion are steps toward balance, resilience, and joy.

Important Update on Crisis Services
Important Update on Crisis Services
Hello Community Partners,
We want to inform you about significant changes coming to TCN’s Crisis Division as a result of funding cuts from external sources beyond TCN’s control. This has several key impacts on our Greene County services and on how the community engages with us. Below is an overview of what to expect and how we will move forward.
1. Changes to the Crisis Line
Effective August 1, 2025, Greene County access to the TCN 24-hour Crisis Line (937-376-8701) will end. Calls to this number will reach an automated attendant with this message:
“Thank you for calling the TCN Crisis Line. If this is a life-threatening emergency, please hang up and call 911. If you are experiencing thoughts of suicide, please hang up and call the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. If this is not an emergency, please hang up and call 937-376-8700 during regular business hours. This crisis line is no longer in service due to external funding cuts.”
First responders who previously called the Crisis Line should call 988, which includes a required Columbia Suicide Screening. At times, your call may be answered by a non-local backup center. Please know that TCN is working diligently to minimize any disruptions and to continue providing the high level of care you expect from our agency.
2. Other Crisis Programs
External funding has also significantly reduced for several programs resulting in the elimination of Greene County Crisis programs including:
Quick Response Team (QRT)
CIT outreach and follow-up
OSP-OVI outreach and follow-up
After-hours and weekend on-call availability
Despite this, we are taking steps to maintain continuity of care and community support:
The Emergency Services Care Coordinator position has ended, and Nicole Folks has transitioned to a new role as 988 Floor Coach, helping strengthen our 988 Center and realign our crisis services to meet current needs.
Nicole will remain a key contact for our community partners, coordinating with our 988 Call Center Specialists to link individuals to resources and do outreach and follow-up with TCN clients and treatment providers when appropriate. Nicole may be reached directly at 937-376-8760 and via email at nfolks@tcn.org.
3. Jail Services
External funding for Greene County jail services has been constructively eliminated to the extent that the rates provided to TCN were reduced to 40 percent of the cost needed to provide the current level of services at a financial break-even. Currently TCN provides a Psychiatrist and Independent Counselor to the jail. TCN is working with stakeholders to look for other funding opportunities to continue providing these important services in Greene County Jail. If the funding opportunities are not viable, TCN will no longer be providing Greene County jail services as of August 1, 2025.
Moving Forward
We know these changes have a significant impact on our clients and our community partners. Please know that TCN’s mission has not changed: we remain dedicated to delivering high-quality, compassionate behavioral health care to the community. Training on internal processes to support these changes is underway at TCN so we are fully prepared to serve our community.
We understand you are likely to have questions and concerns. We invite you to reach out directly to Chief Development Officer Chris Pinkelman at (937) 376-8760 or cpinkelman@tcn.org.
Thank you for your trust in TCN and your continued partnership in serving the needs of our community.
